1. Cardiac Emergency Response Essentials

Participants will learn the fundamental principles of responding to cardiac emergencies. They will gain insights into recognizing the signs of a cardiac crisis, understanding the importance of a rapid response, and familiarizing themselves with the importance of following current local emergency-response guidance and organisational procedures. This foundational knowledge sets the stage for effective intervention in critical situations.

2. Life-Saving Techniques: CPR and AED Usage

Participants will dive into hands-on training as they explore the core life-saving techniques. They will discover how to assess the scene for safety, check for responsiveness, activate emergency medical services (EMS), and perform high-quality CPR on adults, children, and infants. Additionally, this section delves into the proper use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), including AED components, pad placement, and safe operation. By mastering these skills, participants will be well-prepared to respond confidently and effectively during real-life cardiac emergencies.

OUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Our program teaches a progression of skills in a safe, educational and supportive environment with a balance of water safety and correct stroke technique at the heart of what we do. We focus on core skills being acquired before more difficult skills are taught with an emphasis on correct technique over a short distance before longer distances are introduced. Practicing skills correctly over a short distance is more helpful to stroke development than practicing skills incorrectly over longer distances as it reduces the chance for ‘bad habits’ to become a permanent part of swimming. As participants master skills and move through our continuum, distances will gradually increase, with our highest level regularly swimming 25+ metres.

Course participants develop practical teaching knowledge and prepare for supervised attachments and assessment. Further coaching opportunities depend on successful completion, suitability and assignment availability.
