Classroom Session
(2 hours)
Introduction to Adult Swim Instruction: Participants will be introduced to the principles and fundamentals of adult swim instruction. They will explore the unique characteristics of teaching adults, including their motivations, goals, and potential challenges. This session aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the adult learning process and its implications for effective instruction.
Teaching Methodologies for Adults: This session will cover various teaching methodologies and approaches tailored specifically for adult learners. Participants will learn how to create engaging and interactive lessons that cater to the needs and preferences of adult swimmers. Topics such as differentiated instruction, problem-solving activities, and group discussions will be explored to enhance the learning experience.
Lesson Planning and Progression: Effective lesson planning is crucial for adult swim instructors. This session will focus on developing structured and progressive lesson plans that address the specific needs and goals of adult swimmers. Participants will learn how to set realistic objectives, sequence activities, and assess and track progress to ensure continuous improvement.

Pool Session

Stroke Technique Analysis: During the pool sessions, participants will focus on stroke technique analysis for adult swimmers. They will learn how to assess and evaluate the swimming strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke) specific to adult learners. Participants will gain insights into identifying common stroke errors and providing targeted feedback for stroke refinement.
Skill Development and Progressions: This session will cover skill development drills and progressions designed specifically for adult swimmers. Participants will learn how to structure drills that target areas of improvement and help adult learners develop strength, coordination, and efficiency in their swimming technique. Emphasis will be placed on creating progressive exercises that challenge and support continuous skill development.
Individualized Instruction: In the pool sessions, participants will explore strategies for delivering individualized instruction to adult swimmers. They will learn how to assess the unique abilities and learning styles of adult learners and tailor their teaching approaches accordingly. This includes adapting instruction based on the swimmers' goals, abilities, and comfort levels in the water.
Water Safety and Rescue Techniques: Safety is paramount in swimming instruction, and this session will focus on water safety and rescue techniques specific to adult learners. Participants will learn how to identify potential risks and hazards, implement safety measures, and respond effectively to emergencies in the pool environment. Skills such as assisting distressed swimmers and performing basic rescue techniques will be covered.
Adaptive Teaching Strategies: This session will explore adaptive teaching strategies for accommodating the diverse needs and abilities of adult swimmers. What's next?
Upon completion of the advanced swimming instructor course, participants will have an in-depth understanding of swimming strokes and techniques, as well as survival strokes and SwimSafer certification. Participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to design and implement endurance and conditioning programs, and to adapt instruction for special populations.
Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to further their career in the swimming industry, as they will be eligible to join our affiliated swim school or other swim schools. This course is designed for individuals who are serious about advancing their career in swimming instruction and coaching.
