Swimming instructor course terms and conditions - swim instructor training in Singapore

1. Who these terms cover

These terms apply to anyone who registers for a Swimming Teachers Academy course: the Swim2u in-house instructor course, SSI Swim Teacher Level 1, Level 2, Adult and Baby, and React Right (CPR & AED), whether taken alone or as a package.

2. Eligibility and prerequisites

  • Core pathway: minimum age 16, proficiency in at least two swimming strokes, and able to communicate clearly with swimmers.
  • Adult and Baby specialist courses: minimum age 18 and completed SSI Swim Teacher Level 1, Level 2 and React Right.
  • You are responsible for declaring your swimming competency and prerequisites accurately on the registration form. If you skip React Right on the basis of an existing CPR & AED certification, you must provide proof that it is valid.

3. Registration, payment and confirmation

  • You register by completing the course registration form and paying online.
  • We email your course confirmation within three days of successful registration and payment.
  • Course fees are those shown on the registration form at the time you register. See the course fees page for the current packages.
  • Instalment plans and financial assistance are not currently offered.

4. Schedules and venue

Sessions are scheduled on the dates you select and are subject to availability. Training currently takes place at Commerze@Irving, Level 3 swimming pool, near Tai Seng MRT. If we need to change a date or venue, we will contact you using the details you provided.

5. Rescheduling

Notify us at least one day in advance if you need to reschedule a session. Changes made with less notice incur a fee of S$80.

6. Completion deadlines

  • Core pathway: the course, attachments and assessment must be completed within six months of the payment date.
  • Adult and Baby specialist courses: the course and assessment must be completed within one year of the payment date.

7. Refunds and transfers

All payments are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable, except for the conditional reimbursement described in section 8.

8. Conditional course-fee reimbursement

Graduates of the SSI international certification course who complete the course, ten attachments and assessment, and who are then assigned swimming lessons by the affiliated swim school, are paid the standard coach rate for lessons taught. After completing 160 coaching hours, the course fee is reimbursed in full. There is no time limit for completing the 160 hours. Lesson assignments depend on suitability, performance, location and availability and are not guaranteed. Details are explained on the course fees page; ask us to confirm in writing which package your reimbursement applies to.

9. Additional fees

  • Adult and Baby specialist courses: a one-time S$90 digital-kit registration fee is payable after the final assessment and is not included in the course fee.
  • Any SSI renewal or active-status fees are set by SSI.

10. Assessment and certification

Certification is not awarded for attendance alone. You must complete the required training, attachments and assessment, and demonstrate the swimming and teaching competencies for your pathway. Successful SSI candidates receive the SSI Swim Teacher certification for the level completed; the in-house course leads to an in-house certificate. Recognition by other employers, venues or countries is decided by them.

11. Coaching opportunities

Eligible graduates may request an optional interview for part-time lesson assignments. Interviews, assignments, venues, schedules and income depend on suitability and availability and are not guaranteed.

12. Safety in the water

Follow the trainer’s instructions and venue rules at all times. Please tell your trainer before a pool session about anything that could affect your safety in the water, so the session can be adjusted.

13. Personal data

We handle the personal data you give us in line with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012. See our Privacy Policy.
